Adam Morrow and Jamie Sego - the duo behind the brilliantly named Sister Ray Davies - may be based in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, but their latest album takes inspiration from the remote island of Lindisfarne off the coast of northeast England. Drawing on themes of history, isolation and cycles of progress and regression, the record reframes abstract emotions through the lens of a centuries-old religious outpost. Despite its lyrical roots lying thousands of miles away, the album pulses with the warmth and soul of their home surroundings. It was recorded at Portside Sound, the modern incarnation of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, with Jamie at the controls. Fuzzy guitars meet folk-horror moods and melodic songwriting on a record that balances depth with playfulness - “a living and breathing thing,” as Adam describes it. Referencing recent political and social upheaval, the pair explore big ideas without losing the joy of making music. “It became a way to make sense of our own moment in history,” says Adam. “But we also had fun. We hope you enjoy it. Peace, love and reverb from Alabama.” For fans of Ride, Slowdive, Galaxie 500, Talk Talk, Yo La Tengo and The Clientele.
