Car Seat Headrest return to Teens of Denial with Teen of Denial: Joe’s Story, a reimagined version of their breakout album built around a character who previously lurked in the background. Originally used by Will Toledo as a nod to Daniel Johnston, “Joe” now steps into focus as the centre of a fuller narrative, giving the songs a new emotional thread. Revisiting the material a decade later, the band reunited with producer Steve Fisk to revise lyrics, reshape arrangements and record additional material in the spirit of the original sessions. New tracks including Optimistic Son and Joe Drives Again expand the story while keeping the album’s scrappy guitar energy and dark humour intact.
