For Aesop Rock, the phrase I Heard It’s A Mess There Too began as a throwaway lyric, but quickly became something deeper - a reflection of the conversations he’d been having with friends across cities, comparing notes on chaos, change, and connection. The more he sat with it, the more it felt like the centre of a record about staying in touch with the world and with one another. Musically, I Heard It’s A Mess There Too marks a shift in approach. “I’d been building tracks the same way for many years,” Aesop says. “Here, I made a conscious change. I tried new tools, pared things down, made the beats cleaner and more minimal. I didn’t want the production and the vocals competing - just enough to get a wave rolling.” The result is a lean, dynamic set of twelve tracks that balance introspection with movement, each one a different stop along that creative journey.
