Puma Blue - the project of Jacob Allen - returns with Croak Dream, a record that reimagines his signature spectral intimacy through the raw, instinctive energy of his live band. Blending lo-fi jazz balladry with jungle rhythms, krautrock textures, and trip-hop haze, the album recalls the emotional intensity of artists like Portishead, Jeff Buckley, and D’Angelo. Written ni solitude and later transformed in collaboration, Croak Dream emerged from tape loop sessions at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios. Co-produced and engineered by Sam Petts-Davies (The Smile, Frank Ocean), the sessions saw the band improvising around fragments of Allen’s songs they’d only just encountered. The result is a dreamlike collage of baritone sax-led ballads and restless grooves - tender, feverish, and alive - capturing Puma Blue at his most instinctive and inventive.
