Matt Berry Trio step into Acid Jazz’s Jazz Sessions series with Everything’s Peachy, a 12-part instrumental suite shaped by improvisation and narrative flow. Joined by Phill Scragg and Graham Mann, Berry shifts into a stripped-back, studio trio setting that leans into mid-century jazz while leaving room for drift and spontaneity. The suite draws on the story of Sky King Richard Russell, tracing the arc of his unauthorised flight - from thrill to fallout - through passages that move between tension and calm. There are nods to electric-era Miles Davis and the restrained melancholy of Erik Satie, but the emphasis stays on mood and movement rather than homage. Curated by Ed Piller, the Jazz Sessions series revisits Acid Jazz’s roots, focusing on artist-led recordings with a loose, exploratory edge.
