L.Y.R.’s third album takes its cue from a simple but resonant idea: the most distant points of light can only be seen in darkness. From that contradiction, the record traces a path through uncertainty, environmental unease and emotional turbulence, always edging towards moments of steadiness and hope. Inspired by the concept of dark sky reservations - protected spaces where light pollution is limited to reveal the night sky - the album reflects on both planetary and psychological climates. Songs move between images of extreme weather and familiar suburban scenes, using storms, flooded ground and obscured horizons as metaphors for contemporary disorientation. Against this, the idea of the dark sky reservation becomes a place of pause: a zone where distraction recedes and perspective returns. These protected landscapes offer refuge from an increasingly virtual, accelerated world, inviting contemplation and a renewed sense of scale. L.Y.R.’s music occupies a similar space, balancing unease with clarity and introspection with warmth, encouraging listeners to look outward and inward at once. L.Y.R. is Simon Armitage, current British Poet Laureate, alongside singer-songwriter Richard Walters and producer/multi-instrumentalist Patrick Pearson.
