Holy Wave recorded i’m DADA with experimental duo Lorelle Meets The Obsolete at El Derrumbe studio in Ensenada, Mexico, shaping an album that folds personal reflection and wider uncertainty into its hypnotic psych-pop sound. Themes of fatherhood, relationships, estrangement and technological unease run beneath the surface, absorbed into the music rather than directly stated. Working with longtime collaborator Joo Joo Ashworth, the band expand their sound with loops, samples and groove-led arrangements that bring new momentum to their familiar haze. Dub-influenced spaciousness, downtempo rhythms, fuzz-heavy textures and softly suspended vocals give the record a more deliberate, grounded feel than earlier releases. Rather than drifting through atmosphere, i’m DADA finds Holy Wave refining and tightening their sound without losing its immersive pull.
