Elder Island return with Hello Baby Okay, a record that flips the script on the densely layered approach of 2021’s Swimming Static. Heading back into the studio, the Bristol trio set out to “turn everything on its head”, trading meticulous construction for loose, free-flowing jam sessions that rekindled their instinct for movement and immediacy. Where earlier work leaned into brooding textures, Hello Baby Okay pulses with liberated energy: lilting funk-pop guitars, elastic basslines and danceable rhythms threaded with a sense of play. It’s a conscious push toward euphoria, shaped as much by DJ culture as by live performance. Katy Sargent (vocals, cello), Luke Thornton (bass, production) and David Havard (guitar, synths) have spent the past decade building a devoted following across the UK and US, equally at home on festival stages and club line-ups. That dual identity runs through this record: rooted in songcraft, but driven by the warm pull of the dancefloor. Hello Baby Okay is a bright, groove-heavy statement of intent from a band refusing to be boxed into chillout corners.
