Editors return with Surface, Echo & Sound, their eighth studio album for Play It Again Sam. Following the electronic leanings of EBM, the band took a different path, reconnecting with the collaborative approach that defined their early days. Working together in a Gloucestershire rehearsal space during the summer of 2025, Editors developed the songs as a group, exploring ideas in real time rather than building them in the studio. Frontman Tom Smith arrived with a set of acoustic-based compositions, echoing the songwriting approach behind his recent solo work, before opening them up to the band's collective instincts. The result is an album shaped by spontaneity, interaction and the energy of musicians creating together in a room, capturing Editors in a fresh phase while reconnecting with the foundations of their sound.
