Courtney Marie Andrews continues to push the boundaries of Folk and Americana on Valentine, her ninth studio album and most sonically adventurous work to date. Co-produced with Jerry Bernhardt and recorded almost entirely to tape, the record captures full in-studio performances that favour honesty over polish. Andrews expands her palette with flute, high-strung guitars and synths, channelling inspiration from her poetry and painting into a deeply expressive sound. Written during a time of emotional flux, Valentine explores the tension between love and limerence, loss and renewal. Facing the potential loss of a loved one while falling into an uncertain new romance, Andrews found herself navigating blurred emotional borders - grief and desire intertwining into doubt and obsession.
