2020 marks 15 years of Hassle Records.They reissue 15 records from varying parts of their history and catalogue, all as limited vinyl-only releases.
This very young band were making a real name for themselves in the late Noughties. Guitarist Alfie Skully was just 15 when the band started touring, and 17 when they were signed by Hassle. A combination of raw aggression / shouted vocal delivered by the front man Dan Brown, juxtaposed with Liam Cromby’s amazing soaring melodic vocal, allowed this debut album to showcase the fact that UK acts could potential compete with their American counterparts in this genre of music (what should we call it? Screamo, perhaps?). Then again, We Are The Ocean employed a wide range of styles - the urgency of Look Alive to All This Has To End, and the slow and brooding but no less effective Confession contributing to what is a really strong debut.
