Wayne Shorter capped an extraordinary 1964 with Speak No Evil, recorded at Van Gelder Studio on Christmas Eve. Having left Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers for Miles Davis’ Quintet earlier that year, the saxophonist assembled Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Elvin Jones for six original compositions.
