The Beatles' Rubber Soul marked a major step forward for the band. Released in 1965, the album broadened their sound with elements of folk, soul and rock, while introducing instruments including sitar, harmonium and fuzz bass. Featuring classics such as Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown), Michelle and In My Life, it paired increasingly sophisticated songwriting with inventive arrangements. A commercial and critical success, Rubber Soul helped redefine the album as an artistic statement and remains one of the most influential records of the 1960s.
