The album took shape after frontman Brian Briggs spent weeks on St Kilda, working as a National Trust ranger in one of the UK’s most remote locations. Surrounded by sheer sea cliffs, seabird colonies and abandoned settlements, the experience fed directly into the writing, with the island’s stark beauty and layered history informing the tone of the record. These songs reflect on connection, fragility and the pressures shaping contemporary life, from environmental change to social division, while holding onto a sense of optimism. Themes of journey, discovery and choice run throughout. Musically, Beyonder moves beyond the folk tag often applied to the band, opening into broader arrangements while keeping their harmonies and direct songwriting front and centre.
