Recorded in Reb Fountain’s garage studio with long-time collaborators Dave Khan, Simon Gooding and Earl Robertson, Water For Gasoline favours instinct over studio perfection. Most songs were recorded live in a single take, with ideas rewritten and rearranged as the sessions unfolded. The result keeps the immediacy of those performances intact, giving Fountain’s songwriting plenty of room to breathe. Tackling the pressures of the present while looking for beauty and connection amid the noise, it’s a direct and distinctly human record.
