MONO return with Snowdrop, their first studio album since OATH, shaped in the wake of producer Steve Albini’s passing. A defining presence in the band’s history, Albini’s absence looms large, but rather than dwell in it, the record finds MONO reshaping grief into something outward-looking. Stepping in, Brad Wood (known for work with Touché Amoré and The Smashing Pumpkins) brings both technical understanding and a personal connection to Albini’s legacy. Recording took place at Electrical Audio, a familiar space for the band, lending the sessions added weight. Working again with conductor Chad McCullough, the group expand their sound with a 10-piece orchestra and 8-piece choir across eight compositions. The result balances scale with restraint—intimate yet full-bodied. Rather than a memorial, Snowdrop feels like a continuation: reflective, open-ended, and grounded in appreciation rather than loss.
