"After we finished In a Silent Way," explained Miles Davis in his autobiography, “I took the band out on the road; Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, Chick Corea, and Jack DeJohnette were now my working band. Man, I wish this band had been recorded live because it was really a bad motherfucker. I think Chick Corea and a few other people recorded some of our performances live, but Columbia missed out on the whole fucking thing. We toured through the spring and up until August, when we went back into the studio again and recorded Bitches Brew.” Although Miles was unaware of it at the time, many performances (such as the one included here, recorded live at the Berlin Philharmonie, Germany, on November 7, 1969) were preserved by European TV and radio stations or by audience members.
