Joey Quiñones draws inspiration from a tight East LA radius — liquor stores, Whittier Boulevard’s Sign of Music, garage rehearsals and backyard oldies drifting through the air. Cumbia, punk and sweet soul collide in his songs, a soundtrack shaped by neighbourhood life. Long known as a defining voice in the Chicano soul revival and frontman of Thee Sinseers, Quiñones has built his reputation as a devoted interpreter of the soul songbook. Before that, he spent years leading backing bands for touring Jamaican ska and dancehall artists across Southern California — what he calls his “reggae college,” an apprenticeship in rocksteady and roots that sharpened his craft. On Inna Soul Steady Situation, Quiñones steps out solo and brings those formative influences to the fore, marrying vintage reggae rhythms with his unmistakable East LA soul sensibility.
