dgoHn (John Cunnane) presents Tessares, his fourth album and first for Planet Mu—a playful, unconventional take on drum & bass that offsets intricate drumfunk and breakcore rhythms with sparse, melodic detail. Drawing on jazz and math rock, Cunnane shifts between unusual time signatures and polyrhythms, yet keeps the music fluid and approachable. Opener Waiting For sets the tone with restless breaks, airy textures and fragmented vocal traces, lending the record a subtle emotional thread. I Couldn't Remember So I Made Something Up bends a melodic framework into 15/8, while Whistling On A Tuesday pivots between tempos with swirling amen patterns. Elsewhere, Holly Can Swim But She Doesn’t Really Like It pushes into knotty rhythmic territory, before closer 7 Years Or More drifts through dubwise textures, layered detail and a stripped-back final passage. Across Tessares, dgoHn explores complexity without losing focus, shaping a record that’s as inventive as it is absorbing.
