In September 1977, David Bowie and Bing Crosby recorded Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy for Crosby’s TV special Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas. Blending Crosby’s stately take on the 1941 carol with Bowie’s specially written counter-melody, the duet captured an unlikely yet moving meeting of two generations. Broadcast later that year, it became one of Crosby’s final performances before his death. Eventually released as a single in 1982, it reached number three in the UK and sold over 400,000 copies.
