Ata Kak made an unlikely mark on Ghanaian music history with his 1994 cassette Obaa Sima. Initially overlooked, the album became an online sensation in 2006 when it appeared as the first post on Awesome Tapes From Africa, sparking a global cult following for its idiosyncratic fusion of left-field electronics and Twi-language hiplife. Now, for the first time since Obaa Sima, Ata Kak unveils new music. Developed in Kumasi studios over several years, the songs showcase his signature rapid-fire rap, playful scatting, dramatic percussion, and traditional Akan harp. More intricate than his early work, these tracks feature layered harmonies and expansive arrangements that reflect his boundless creativity. A prolific poet, author, painter, and gardener, Ata Kak channels his restless artistic spirit into music that feels both deeply rooted and wildly adventurous.
