Waking Up sharpens the band’s distinctive mix of dark textures and melodic instinct into a focused, characterful album. Drawing on their New Jersey roots and Austin base, the songs balance grit and humour, tension and release, with a clear sense of purpose throughout. Produced and recorded by Ty Segall at his Topanga, California home studio, Waking Up captures Annabelle Chairlegs in a direct, unforced setting. Lead singer Lindsey Mackin is joined by Nick Cornetti on drums and Derek Strahan on bass, locking into a tight, responsive dynamic that gives the material space to breathe while retaining its edge. The band’s sound has been shaped by years of touring and eclectic line-ups, sharing stages with The Zombies, Lucy Dacus and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and appearing at Austin City Limits, SXSW, Levitation and Austin Psych Fest. That breadth of experience feeds into an album that feels assured without excess.
