Agnes Obel follows 2020’s Myopia with The Meaning of Flowers, a 12-track album written, arranged, recorded and produced in her Berlin studio. Inspired by the birth of her first child, the record explores new beginnings, connection and the physical and psychological changes brought by new life. Its wide-ranging influences include ancient poet Enheduanna, philosophers Hannah Arendt and Emanuele Coccia, and Danish pop from the 1980s and ’90s, feeding into Obel’s distinctive, atmospheric songwriting.
