The Anchoress (aka Catherine Anne Davies) follows up The Art Of Losing with As We Once Were, a 14-track set shaped by questions of time, inheritance and change. Written and produced by Davies at Black Lodge Studios, the album draws on a bank of vintage analogue synthesisers from Pete Townshend, giving the record a broad, cinematic scope. Created during a period marked by the birth of her first child, alongside personal loss and the rediscovery of her grandmother’s voice on an old cassette, the songs reflect on how the past lingers and reshapes the present. Davies asks what can be carried forward, what must be let go, and whether earlier versions of ourselves can ever be reclaimed. The result is a focused, expansive record that balances introspection with a sense of forward motion.
