The soundtrack to This Is Spinal Tap remains one of the sharpest and funniest rock parodies ever committed to tape. Originally issued alongside Rob Reiner’s 1984 mockumentary, the album captures the fictional band’s greatest “hits,” from the thunderous riffing of ‘Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight’ to the timeless absurdity of ‘Big Bottom’ and ‘Stonehenge.’ Every track is played with such conviction that it blurs the line between satire and sincerity, echoing the excesses and pomposity of hard rock at its peak. Both a comedy classic and a genuinely satisfying rock record, This Is Spinal Tap has endured as a touchstone for musicians and fans alike, proof that parody done right can cut as deep as the music it lampoons. This Is Spinal Tap is newly remastered by Bernie Grundman from the soundtrack’s original stereo analogue master tapes.
