Shabaka (also known as Shabaka Hutchings) presents Of The Earth, his third solo album and the first released on Shabaka Records. Written and produced entirely by Hutchings, the album marks a return to his distinctive saxophone voice, framed by carefully sculpted electronics and an array of traditional woodwind and percussion instruments drawn from musical cultures around the world. The record reflects the breadth of Hutchings’ practice, bringing together acoustic performance and modern production with a measured, intentional touch. It builds on a body of work that spans his projects with The Comet Is Coming, Sons of Kemet and Shabaka and the Ancestors, as well as his solo releases Perceive its Beauty, Acknowledge its Grace and Afrikan Culture. Alongside his own output, Hutchings has collaborated widely, working with artists including Andre 3000, Floating Points, Mulatu Astatke, The Sun Ra Arkestra, Lianne La Havas and Saul Williams. Of The Earth stands as a focused statement within that wider context: personal, expansive, and grounded in sound as craft. Available on CD and ‘cornflower blue’ coloured vinyl.
