Pond’s Terrestrials draws on a lineage of Australian rock while keeping its focus fixed on the present. Their eleventh album leans into sunburnt guitars, glam and new wave swagger, and a sense of wide-open space, recalling pub backrooms and heat-soaked horizons without slipping into nostalgia. As ever, the band root their songs in people and place - how identity forms, fractures and overlaps. There’s tension running through the record, with flashes of unease and instability, but it’s offset by a belief in resilience. The result is a set that feels both worn-in and unsettled, where familiar sounds are pushed into stranger territory.
