Katherine Priddy returns with These Frightening Machines, her third album and most sonically expansive work to date. Produced by Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi, Bat for Lashes), the record was written over the course of a year as Priddy moved from her twenties into her thirties - a period of reflection, questioning and renewal. Across its songs, Priddy moves through anger, loss, longing and love, exploring what it means to stay connected in a fragmented world. Themes of vulnerability, illness, and the passing of time intertwine with portraits of resilience and empathy, from reclaiming forgotten female voices to finding light amid uncertainty. “I wanted to end this album on a question mark,” Priddy explains. “Perhaps part of being human is being a perpetual work in progress.” The album features guest appearances from Torres (duet on Madeleine), Richard Walters (duet on I’m Always Willing) and multi-instrumentalist Ben Christophers (Natasha Khan, Guy Garvey), who contributes to much of the record. These Frightening Machines affirms Priddy’s place among the UK’s most compelling contemporary songwriters. Available on CD and red smoke vinyl LP.
