Darkthrone’s The Cult Is Alive marked the Norwegian duo’s move back to Peaceville in 2006 and a notable shift in their sound. Recorded by Fenriz and Nocturno Culto at their own Necrohell 2 studio, the album pushed their black metal foundations further into punk, heavy metal and doom. The snarling Too Old, Too Cold set the tone, with the pair working entirely on their own terms and pushing beyond the conventions they’d helped establish. Twenty years on, it remains a pivotal entry in Darkthrone’s formidable catalogue. Available on marble vinyl LP.
